PD Dr. Tobias Freimüller

Deputy Director

Tobias Freimüller has been Deputy to the Director of the Fritz Bauer Institute since 2017. He is a member of the editorial board of Einsicht. Bulletin des Fritz Bauer Instituts.

He studied history, German language and literature, educational and social sciences at the Ruhr University Bochum. In 2001, he passed the First State Examination. In 2007, he received his doctorate from the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena with a biography of the psychoanalyst and critical intellectual Alexander Mitscherlich. Freimüller was a Research Associate at the Chair for Modern and Contemporary History of Prof. Dr. Norbert Frei at the universities in Bochum and Jena. In 2010, Tobias Freimüller was Theodor Heuss Lecturer and Assistant Professor at the New School for Social Research in New York City. In 2012, he was a Research Fellow at the Franz Rosenzweig Minerva Research Center for German-Jewish Literature and Cultural History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He completed his habilitation at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main in 2019 with a thesis entitled Frankfurt and the Jews (1945–1990).
