Tobias Freimüller is Deputy to the Director of the Fritz Bauer Institute and Adjunct Professor at the Department of History at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. He is a member of the editorial board of Einsicht. Bulletin des Fritz Bauer Instituts. Tobias Freimüller studied history and German language at the Ruhr University Bochum and passed the First State Examination in 2001. He received his doctorate from the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena with a biography of the psychoanalyst and critical intellectual Alexander Mitscherlich in 2007. Since 2005, he was a Research Associate at the Chair for Modern and Contemporary History of Prof. Dr. Norbert Frei at the universities in Bochum and Jena. In 2010, Tobias Freimüller was Theodor Heuss Lecturer and Assistant Professor at the New School for Social Research in New York City. In 2012, he was a Research Fellow at the Franz Rosenzweig Minerva Research Center at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He has been at the Fritz Bauer Institute since 2017 and completed his habilitation at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main in 2019 with a thesis entitled Frankfurt and the Jews (1945–1990).
