This accessibility statement applies to the website www.fritz-bauer-institut.de and is updated on the basis of an ongoing self-assessment. The Fritz Bauer Institut is committed to making its website accessible in accordance with Directive (EU) 2016/2102, the Hessian Act on Equal Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities (Hessisches Behinderten-Gleichstellungsgesetz, HessBGG), and the Hessian Ordinance on Accessible Information Technology (Hessische Verordnung über barrierefreie Informationstechnik, HVBIT).
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. A number of the barriers originally identified have already been fixed; the remaining items are listed below.
Content already fixed
- Low-contrast header and footer text — color contrast increased. (WCAG 1.4.3, 2026-08-26)
- Missing main heading (H1) — added to the affected pages. (WCAG 1.3.1, 2.4.6, 2026-08-27)
- Skipped heading levels — corrected on several content pages. (WCAG 1.3.1, 2.4.1, 2.4.6, 2026-08-27)
- Icon links without a discernible purpose — accessible names added to icon-only links in the header. (WCAG 2.4.4, 4.1.2, 2026-08-27)
- Incorrect ARIA states in the main menu — conflicting aria-controls/aria-labelledby references corrected. (WCAG 4.1.2, 2026-08-27)
- Unassociated form field in search — label/input association fixed. (WCAG 1.3.1, 4.1.2, 2026-08-27)
- Redundant image link in teasers — hidden from assistive technology. (WCAG 2.4.4, 2026-08-27)
- Unannounced PDF links — link text now indicates that a PDF opens in a new tab. (WCAG 2.4.4, 2026-08-27)
Content not yet accessible
- Contrast issue on content badges — the "Neu erschienen" ("Newly published") badge on news detail pages currently has insufficient contrast. (WCAG 1.4.3)
- Skipped heading level on detail pages — on news detail pages, an intermediate heading level is missing after the main heading. (WCAG 1.3.1, 2.4.1, 2.4.6)
- Visually styled but unmarked subheadings — subtitles in news and publication lists are styled like headings but are technically plain paragraphs. (WCAG 1.3.1, 2.4.6)
- Alt text on article images — descriptive alt text is missing in some cases; this is currently under editorial review. (WCAG 1.1.1)
- PDF documents — linked PDF documents (publications, forms) are not yet consistently accessible (missing document structure, missing alt text for embedded graphics). A gradual remediation of the most frequently accessed documents is planned. (WCAG 1.1.1, 1.3.1; PDF/UA)
This statement was prepared on the basis of a self-assessment (automated and spot-check manual review). A full assessment following the BITV-Test procedure is still outstanding.
