Jens Kolata studied modern and contemporary history and sociology at the universities of Tübingen and Groningen. In his doctoral project, Kolata is examining eugenics debates in the medical press in Germany between 1911 and 1976. He was employed as a scientific assistant from 2009 to 2015 on Tübingen University’s task force on National Socialism at the Institute of Ethics and History of Medicine at the University Hospital Tübingen. He subsequently held a position as scientific assistant at Geschichtswerkstatt Tübingen e.V. (Tübingen History Workshops) and served simultaneously in 2017/18 as managing director of the non-profit association Lern- und Dokumentationszentrum zum Nationalsozialismus e.V. Tübingen (Learning and Documentation Centre on National Socialism). Jens Kolata has been a research associate at the Fritz Bauer Institute on the »Social hygiene and healthcare policy in Frankfurt am Main from 1920 to 1960« research project since 2019.
