János Varga M.A.

Research associate

János Varga has been a research associate at the Fritz Bauer Institute since 2025. He is working on a research project about the involvement of Frankfurt’s Polytechnic Society (Polytechnische Gesellschaft) in the economic persecution and social exclusion of Jews during the Nazi era and about the ways the institution came to terms with its past after 1945. János Varga studied Journalism in Magdeburg as well as History and Politics of the 20th Century in Jena. His dissertation at Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena explored the history of educational work against antisemitism in the Federal Republic of Germany (1949-1990). Varga worked as a lecturer at Leibniz Universität Hannover and has been a freelancer at Buchenwald Memorial since 2019. He is a board member of the Villigster Forschungsforum as well as the Förderverein Buchenwald.
