PD Dr. phil. Friederike Sattler
Research associate
Friederike Sattler has been a research associate at the Fritz Bauer Institute since 2025. She is working on a research project about the involvement of Frankfurt's savings banks and other banks in the economic persecution and social exclusion of Jews during the Nazi era and the later attempts at reparation. After studying economic and social history, modern and contemporary history, and economics, she worked as a researcher and lecturer at various universities and research institutions, including the Freie Universität Berlin (where she received her doctorate in 2001), the Institute of International Studies at Charles University in Prague, the Hannah Arendt Institute for Research on Totalitarianism in Dresden, the Center for Contemporary History in Potsdam, and the Historical Commission at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences in Munich. In 2020 she habilitated at the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main with a biography of the banker Alfred Herrhausen (1930–1989).

- Economic, financial, and social history of the 19th and 20th centuries
- Business history, especially the history of banks and bankers
- German merchants in East Asia during the long 19th century (1780–1914)
- History of modern capitalism
