Johannes Meerwald is affiliated to the Fritz Bauer Institute since 2020. He is currently working on a doctoral project on the history of Jewish prisoners who were deported to German concentration camps from 1944 onwards and forced to work on large construction sites for the relocation of the German armaments industry. The project is funded by the Stiftung Ökohaus.
He studied history, political science and Spanish studies at the Justus Liebig University in Gießen, the Philipps University in Marburg and the Universidad de Jaén. His Master’s thesis on the Spanish prisoners of the Dachau concentration camp complex was awarded the study prize of the Comité International de Dachau. After graduating, he worked for the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site conducting research on the history of the Dachau-Allach subcamp complex.
