Dr. Maik Tändler

C. and N. Weickart Postdoc Fellowship

Dr. Maik Tändler (Jena) has been holder of the C. and N. Weickart Postdoctoral Fellowship made possible by Christiane and Nicolaus Weickart and Visiting Research Fellow at the Fritz Bauer Institute since January 2021. He examines the history of the intellectual right in the Federal Republic from its founding until the 1990s, focusing, among other things, on the struggle of the actors studied against Germany’s attempts of confronting its National Socialist past, a process denounced by them as »national masochism« and »coping hype«. The project contributes to the genealogy of today’s »New Right«.

Maik Tändler received his doctorate from the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen in 2015 with a dissertation on the »psychoboom« in the 1970s, and in the same year he took up a position as a Research Assistant at the Chair of Modern and Contemporary History at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena.
