Archive and Library

Usage

The archive of the Fritz Bauer Institute may be used by everyone for research purposes. Usage is governed by the Hessian Archive Law as well as the archive’s rules of use in the currently valid version. The services may be used in the reading room, by phone, letter or E-mail.

We ask that you make an appointment for on-location usage at least five working days in advance. Contact archive(at)fritz-bauer-institut.de to make an appointment.

As a general rule, reproductions may be made. The costs are based on the archive of the Fritz Bauer Institute’s fee schedule in its currently valid version. Independently photographing archive materials is permitted with restrictions.

An application for use must be completed prior to viewing archive material. As a general rule, the legal protection periods of the Hessian Archive Law apply to the materials in the archive of the Fritz Bauer Institute. Application for special permission to access blocked archive materials may be made under certain circumstances (proof of a legitimate research interest, exercise of legal interests and appropriate manner of protection of third party-worthy interests). Please note that attending to your enquiries requires some time. You should therefore make your enquiry well in advance and keep in mind, that requests at short-notice cannot be tended to immediately.
